Best Google Alternatives: Eliminate Google From Your Life Right Now

shutterstock_607611311

Try out these top Google alternatives to finally kick Google out of your life.

For the first part of this post click here.

Today we are going to start things off with Google Maps.

Check out the link above if you want to know the best alternatives to Google search engine, Gmail and YouTube.

With that said let’s move towards the best alternatives for Google Maps.

Best Google Maps Alternatives

The Maps service from Google can help users who want to know their current location as well as directions to a given destination of their choosing.

Google Maps comes with functions such as turn-by-turn audio-based destination instructions which make it reasonably straightforward to move from point A to point B.

Some like to think of the Google Maps service as essentially a full and comprehensive GPS system for anyone who has a smartphone device.

Google Maps comes for free.

Moreover, this Maps service from Google offers users many additional features.

One of those features includes street view and satellite images of any of the user’s chosen destination assuming the availability of data on that location.

It is also true that since Google Maps provides such a comprehensive location service, it has little other choices but to constantly track the user.

And Google makes sure that Google Maps has all the abilities, in working order, that it needs to do that as efficiently as possible.

Now, the thing we want to mention here is that all of the “revolutionary” features that Google Maps offers come at a cost.

And by cost, we don’t mean money.

The cost that users have to pay to make use of Google Maps is privacy.

We’re not saying that Google Maps is bad for privacy.

But there are some privacy implications that users should think about.

Of course, users have the option of turning off their smartphone device’s location services.

That alone would go a long way in making sure that Google is unable to learn too much from the user’s real-time location.

With that said, it is also true that even if the user turns off his/her device’s location services, it still is not sufficient for him/her to prevent Google Maps from knowing where the user is.

Why?

Because Google Maps still has the ability to know a user’s location by deriving the required information from the user’s IP address.

The other problem with disabling any and all location services on one’s computer machine is that it cripples many other useful Google Maps location features.

In other words, Google Maps is great for the user but not great for the user’s privacy.

A lot of online consumers are simply ready to come to a compromise where they give up their privacy in exchange for a free GPS service.

Users who want to get rid of Google Maps as a service on their smartphone device first have to delete the official Google Maps app.

Of course, there is no question about deleting Google Maps partially.

It just does not work that way.

So for users who want to, after uninstalling Google Maps, install another app with features similar to Google Maps, here are the top Google Maps alternatives.

  • MetaGer Maps
  • Here WeGo
  • Mapquest
  • Mappy
  • OpenStreetMap

All of the Google Maps alternatives that we have mentioned above are easily accessible via a web browser and/or a mobile application.

Let’s take a look at each of the options mentioned above in turn.

OpenStreetMap

OpenStreetMap, as the name suggests, is a free and open source map project.

In other words, if someone isn’t entirely happy with the program code then he/she is free to download the code and read it anytime and anywhere.

It is also possible for someone with enough coding skills to change certain elements that are actually changeable.

After that, the user is free to compile his/her own version of the OpenStreetMap facility.

If all of that made little sense then just know that OpenStreetMap is still an open-source online mapping service.

It is just that it is open source and good.

That’s why a lot of other mapping services make use of its code in one form or another.

However, the main version (or the core one) of OpenStreetMap is best run on computer machines that are desktop in nature and are running Windows as their operating system.

With that said, it is also true that some skilled online consumers took OpenStreetMap code and then created their own versions.

Because of that, OpenStreetMap facilities are now available on a variety of operating systems and platforms and that too in various different guises.

To take an example, one OpenStreetMap version goes by the name of OsmAnd.

It is free.

And the developer has written this version for both the Android and the iOS platform.

shutterstock_644029450

Then there is Maps F Droid.

This version, or application, is simply another variation on the default OpenStreetMap.

In other words, Maps F Droid makes use of mapping data from OpenStreetMap.

There is also MapHub.

It is a customized and dedicated front-end to the original database of OpenStreetMap.

The great thing about using OpenStreetMap online is that users don’t really have a requirement to create an official account with OpenStreetMap.

Of course, OpenStreetMap has a GPS function.

And just like Google Maps, in order to work properly, it needs complete access to the user’s location.

Users do have the option of preserving their privacy though.

How?

By simply not using the GPS function.

Users can also protect their privacy by keeping their location information totally private.

Mappy

Unlike Google Maps and OpenStreetMap, Mappy is a little online map tool.

Of course, its tiny size does not mean it isn’t a great map service.

We call Mappy a great map service for the sole reason that it does not make an attempt to actually probe the user’s computer machine for the user’s location data.

The official mappy site does make use of cookies though.

Hence, in order to preserve their privacy, users have to open Mappy in a private browser window.

Mappy provides users with a web service that they can use all the time via their web browser alone on their desktop computers as well as mobile devices with the help of the service’s apps.

One problem with using Mappy is that it doesn’t give the user the option of a satellite view.

However, the facilities which are available on the site can easily extend to offering users accurate driving directions.

MapQuest

If there is one rival to Google Maps then it is MapQuest.

At least, in terms of the percentage of market share.

It comes far ahead of other mapping services in that respect.

MapQuest as a mapping service can boast about having pretty old root.

It actually came into existence as far back as 1967 when a cartographic services business not only founded the service but also developed it.

Of course, MapQuest did not launch the online version of its mapping service until 1996.

Then AOL came in and bought the whole thing.

As for now, Verizon has invested in MapQuest so much that it owns it.

Whenever the user opens up the official MapQuest site, the service (MapQuest) will try to search for and then detect his/her location.

On the other hand, Mapquest also asks the user to given permission for such a disclosure.

In other words, the end user has the option of stopping it and not using the location feature by blocking it.

Just like the previous mapping service that we mentioned on this site, Mapquest too (or more precisely, the service’s official website) makes use of cookies.

The other slight problem with using MapQuest is that, its official website shows users an uncomfortable amount of ads.

If users go to the official MapQuest site, they can see a row of buttons right at the very top of the homepage.

These buttons enable user access to various services that they may or may not select the first time they visit the site.

The services that users will choose here will eventually come up on the map as well.

We’re talking about services such as grocery stores and/or gas stations.

Here

Now, the official HERE website makes use of cookies.

However, users have the option of selecting the kind of HERE cookies which HERE can copy to their computer machine.

There are two types of cookies available for users to choose from.
The first category is personalization.

And the other one is site improvement.

However, our research shows that if users simply take the trouble of opening site official HERE site in one of their private windows then the computer machine will automatically delete those cookies as soon as the user logs out and closes the private window.

The HERE online map system does make use of features that activate location detection.

With that said, users should know that these location images are only available on demand.

Hence, users who do not press the available location function button don’t have to worry about privacy since the official Here website would not make any attempts to request the user’s real location.

However, readers should know that the official HERE website does ask users to allow the service access to their location by default.

Users who have turned off their location features and services will simply observe that their machine would not answer the request.

Our research shows that the official Here site has no capability to actually go ahead and wake the machine’s location services up.

Unlike some of the options that we have mentioned in this guide, the Here mapping service offers satellite views and map views of the earth (the planet) right down to the street level.

Users have the option of asking HERE to view real-time traffic patterns (or more precisely, current ones).

Users can also request HERE to view movements on various city public transport routes.

HERE even offers users the ability to ask for accurate driving directions.

Our research shows that the HERE system is able to do pretty much anything and everything that bad-for-privacy Google Maps can do.

Online consumers have the option of accessing the official website of HERE via their web browser.

HERE, as an online mapping service, offers dedicated apps for both iOS and Android devices.

MetaGer Maps

This mapping service (MetaGer Maps) is run by a company which also owns the search engine called MetaGer Search.

We have talked in-depth about MetaGer Search in the first part of this post.

So users who want to read up more on that should go to the top of this guide and then click on the link that we have provided.

As far as the actual mapping system goes, MetaGer makes use of the OpenStreetMap open-source platform as the basis for its own mapping service.

Just like with all the other mapping services mentioned till now, users can access the official website and hence the mapping service from the internet via their web browser on a computer machine and/or through the official app for devices which are running the Android operating system.

Users who take the plunge and allow MetaGer to take a peek at their actual location, can actually use this mapping service as a full GPS system.

We would also like to inform the user that MetaGer has adamantly said in the past that the company does not keep/store any type of data on its customers/users.

The only problem that comes to mind when talking about MetaGer map service is that a portion of the text that is available on the service’s map screen is in German instead of English.

And there is no way to translate that data into any other language than German.

Best Google Drive Alternatives

shutterstock_1095401495

Google Drive is one of the most popular and in-demand services that Google has come out with after its search engine offering.

And the reasons for that are fairly understandable.

Google Drive is easy to access.

And is available on all platforms.

Moreover, users can simply navigate to Google Drive from any Google Search online web page via the Apps menu.

Perhaps the biggest reason why a lot of people prefer to use Google Drive instead of any other service is that it is free.

So what’s the problem then?

If Google Drive is so perfect and is free, then why would anyone want to move away from Google Drive to something else?

Well, the main reason is that the system behind Google Drive is not that secure.

Moreover, Google Drive leaves users pretty much exposed to the company’s extensive data gathering techniques.

The best that we can say about this situation is that we hope Google does not break into its customers’ Google Drive and then read all the documents along with all the other stuff that the user has stored in Google Drive.

With that said, we should only criticize Google as much as it deserves.

One should always take care to not criticize a company or someone unfairly.

Because that just leads to a toxic environment.

What do we mean by that?

What we mean is that Google, as a company, is well within its legitimate rights to have access to the metadata about the user’s activities online.

Google knows that.

And this it stores that information.

After storing it, it compiles the information about the user as well.

Those wondering what type of data comes under the term “metadata” should know that it refers to the information that the user’s activities produce such as,

  • Data transfers
  • Frequency and schedule of access

These are just facts that users have to deal with as Google is doing nothing illegal in storing such data about him/her.

Users who do not want to be a part of this partnership with Google can look into other Google Drive-like alternatives.

Some of the best Google Drive alternatives that users should consider go something like,

  • Tresorit
  • TeamDrive
  • Sync.com
  • Nextcloud
  • Dropbox

There are some other alternatives as well.

But according to our research, these alternatives are the best ones.

We have worked hard to make sure that our list manages to cover a truly wide range of different online storage services and solutions for all types of online consumers.

Some may find it surprising that we have included the likes of Dropbox on our list.

But we would like to reiterate the fact that not every Google user wants to get away from anti-consumerism.

Some are simply tired of Google and only want to remove Google and its products from their lives and not necessarily all technology products that come from giant corporations.

Besides, in no way does Dropbox falls into the category of a humongous conglomerate.

Dropbox is a totally independent company that tries to compete with Google when it comes to offering cloud-based storage facilities.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at each option that we have mentioned above turn by turn.

Dropbox

The first thing that we always like to mention about Dropbox is that it, instead of Google Drive, has led the way as an innovator as far as the cloud storage consumer market is concerned.

There is strong evidence that Dropbox and Dropbox alone, single-handedly managed to create this genre of cloud storage online services.

Now, Dropbox has a couple of offerings based on the type of user it comes across.

The first offering is for individual users.

Dropbox allows them to use the company’s system without charging them anything.

But the free account comes with a limitation.

Users can only store up to 1 GB of data on their free account.

In other to get an increased amount of online storage, the user has to pay something to Dropbox.

We will not skimp over the fact that Dropbox indeed has experienced a several number of security glitches.

Especially in the last couple of years.

However, these bad experiences have not found any success in stopping Dropbox, an innovative service, from growing and gathering more momentum in the technology market.

Dropbox is still pretty young as it came into existence back in 2009 when two students at MIT decided to offer users with a cloud storage service.

Fast forward to 2016, and Dropbox had become a company that served a total of 500 million users in just one year.

As far as the workings of the system go, each Dropbox account gets the user a folder.

Dropbox integrates this folder to the user’s computer file system.

What does that mean for the end user?

For the end user it means that if the user copies any file to that special Dropbox folder, Dropbox backs it up at the Dropbox server on the cloud.

If there comes an occasion where the user needs to travel for a bit, then the user has the option of accessing his/her folder via a web browser on the official Dropbox website.

If that does not work for some user, then Dropbox also allows users to install Dropbox directly onto their computer machine and/or mobile device.

This also enables easy access for users.

Nextcloud

Now, we are fully aware of the fact that Dropbox may simply not work out for many users for the same reason as Google Drive.

In other words, both have corporations supporting them.

Users who not only want to get away from Google Drive but also want to stay safe from all the ills that corporations bring with themselves should think about Nextcloud as their primary cloud storage provider.

It isn’t much of a cloud storage provider as just a utility to enable users to set up their own cloud storage facility.

Users should keep in mind that Nextcloud is just a software, albeit an open source one, which enables users to create their own file server.

With such a file server in place, users do not have a need of transferring their files from their home computer to their laptop or even mobile devices when they want to access data in them if they are away from home and/or office, traveling or at a coffee shop.

Instead of doing that, all that the user has to do is to connect to his/her home computer from his/her mobile device and/or laptop and then access his/her files completely over the internet.

Such a setup is very useful in many ways.

First up, it allows users to grant any number of other people full access to their folders and files.

As mentioned before, there are some other benefits here as well.

But we don’t want to focus on them for now.

For now, we want to talk about a problem with such a setup.

The problem with such a setup is that self-hosting solutions essentially mean, that the user himself/herself is absolutely responsible for the entirety of the system.

Not only that, the user is also responsible for any data transfer security.

If a user does not have the required background in such operations, things can become rather complicated.

And it takes time to master all of these things to ensure that they work online at any time and all the time.

Sync

Synch is another one of those up and coming cloud storage service that is based in Canada.

This is one of the few hosting services which includes excellent encryption implementation not just for storage but also for data transmission.

Sync, as a company, offers all users a free storage account.

By all users, we mean members of the general public.

In other words, Synch charges money to corporations who want to use its services in order to back up their data.

The official Synch system enables users to share files via very secure links.

Moreover, companies can utilize the Sync cloud storage service in order to have their team collaborate more effectively.

As mentioned at the top as well, Synch covers all its data transfers via end-to-end strong encryption.

What does this do?

shutterstock_1154820175

This prevents any intermediate hackers or any other type of intruders from coming in and cracking open the encryption in order to steal data and then, potentially, launching a ransomware attack.

Synqion

Synqion has gone through a bit of rebranding.

Previously, this cloud storage service went by the name of TeamDrive.

Now it goes by the name of Synqion.

This cloud storage tries to beat the crowd by offering specific tools for efficient team collaboration.

These features are its selling point.

Moreover, the premise that Synqion tries to exploit is that all teams whether small or big should always try to store their documents on a central system so that everyone on the team has an opportunity to access these files and then update them accordingly.

This would, according to Synqion, help teams make each given finished presentation and/or document a real team effort.

The Synqion cloud storage system in a pretty similar way to our previous option Dropbox.

Both use the same format.

However, Synqion tries to increase the level of sharing by not only creating the users backup directory on the user’s computer machine and then making it available to the user himself/herself on the user’s other devices, but it also allows users to let other team members or just people to have access to that folder as well.

Just like Sync, Synqion makes use of end-to-end encryption for all its file transfers.

Synqion also takes the pains to encrypt files and folders on the company’s servers.

These servers work on the basis of zero-knowledge methodology.

This methodology prevents any employee of the company from gaining access to any of the Synqion customers’ files and folders.

It also protects all files in the case where a hacker manages to break into the central Synqion system and tries to damage stuff.

Tresorit

This is just another cloud-based backup service in the sense that it allows users to store their files and folders on the cloud.

However, it has many things going for it which sets it apart from the competition.

To start things off, Tresorit, as a cloud backup service, operates out of Switzerland.

As far as the cloud storage system goes, the company employs end-to-end encryption on all of its file transfers.

The company tries to protect the file storage system by a zero-knowledge methodology that is also encrypted.

What does that mean for the end user?

That means, no employee of the company will have the chance of tracing a particular user and/or his/her files via the encryption key which protects that user and his/her files.

Tresorit is also pretty similar to Dropbox in the sense that both cloud storage services make use of the same system in the sense that Tresorit makes sure that users’ files are properly backed up and are prominently visible to the user in a special kind of directory within the user’s file manager.

Just like some of the other options that we have mentioned on this list, Tresorit also makes use of end-to-end encryption in order to protect its file transfers.

There is no way for the people working at Tresorit to access any user’s encryption keys.

These encryption keys are very important for user security because these actually keep the user’s files private when these files are residing on the company’s storage server.

The only big problem with Tresorit is that it does not offer its services for free.

That means it doesn’t have a free version.

If users want to use the whole system then they will have to cough up some money.

As far as subscription models go, Tresorit has a total of three levels of cloud storage services.

These subscription packages come in the form of,

  • Enterprise
  • Business
  • Personal

Users can, however, make use of the free trial that Tresorit offers before finally deciding to pay the company some money.

Best Google Docs Alternatives

shutterstock_724339948

This is a big one.

There are simply so many users who make use of Google Docs on a daily basis, that it is hard to recommend anything else in terms of reliability and ubiquity.

But all is not lost.

If one simply looks hard enough, there is always a good enough alternative.

As far as online productivity applications and software products go, there is no doubt about the fact that Microsoft 365 is in a league of its own.

In other words, it is the big hitter in town.

And the market seemed to have accepted that fact until a couple of years ago.

The fact that Microsoft Corporation has actually cooperated with the United States security services on many secret projects is something that has damaged the company’s market share a lot.

So, for users who are desperately looking out for an online productivity tool which will not dishonor their privacy, they should probably stay away from Microsoft 365.

Microsoft 365, for all its features and compatibility competence, is simply not the best service provider for users who value their data and privacy.

The other thing we want to mention here is that when we mention anything about Google Docs, we mean two things.

Google Slides.

And Google Sheets, in addition to Google Docs.

In other words, we’re talking about the whole online productivity suite.

A lot of lists such as this one only talk about an alternative to Google Docs.

But we want more than just a better word processor right?

So without any more introductions, here is a list of best Google Docs alternatives that users should try right now in order to get away from Google and stop giving them data to make more money at the expense of user privacy.

  • Zoho Docs
  • OnlyOffice
  • Nuclino
  • LibreOffice
  • CryptPad

Now, no one should have this idea in his/her head that there are only five alternatives to Google Docs in the whole world.

That is simply not true.

In reality, there are many other options.

But as far as solid options go, there aren’t many that are not on this list.

Moreover, we also have to keep in mind the length of this guide.

From that perspective, we thought it was best to stick only to the top five service providers in this category.

So, the top Google Docs alternatives, in order are.

CryptPad

The first thing everybody should take note of as far as CryptPad is concerned is that it offers all users free accounts.

Which is great.

In fact, our research shows that CryptPad does not even require the user to sign up for anything that the service has to offer.

This ensures that users are able to use CryptPad without losing their online anonymity status.

The official CryptPad website provides users with a range of different document formats.

One of the options includes a presentation slides creation facility along with a rich text word processor.

Not only that, it also has a markup language editor.

The last feature we want to mention here is the creation tool for Kanban cards which are so helpful in manufacturing dealings.

As mentioned before, users have the option of not creating an account with the website.

CryptPad will still offer such users to have access to all of his/her previous files.

How does it do that when it does not even require the user to set up an account?

Well, it saves all of the user’s files on the user’s computer machine.

Clever right?

Great.

Moving ahead.

Users who actually do go ahead and sign up with Cryptpad for a free account, get to enjoy a total of 50 MB of free storage on the company’s server.

Needless to say, that is outrageously low.

However, there are also paid accounts.

These increase the size of the storage that the user can utilize.

The available packages increase the user’s storage capacity in increments which go something like,

  • 5 Gigabyte
  • 20 Gigabyte
  • 50 Gigabyte

There are no other options.

These three storage capacities are available to all users depending on which subscription package they have purchased.

And just like the previous cloud storage services that we have mentioned before, the CryptPad online productivity suite also makes use of end-to-end encryption in order to cover all of the user’s file transfers.

The files that the company’s servers stores also have the protection of end-to-end encryption.

In order to open these files, users have to make use of an encryption key.

No one apart from the owner of the account has access to these encryption keys.

In other words, only the customer gets the opportunity to access his/her files and no one else assuming the customer does not give his/her encryption keys to someone else.

LibreOffice

The greatest two things (or seven depending on where you learned your mathematics) about LibreOffice is that is is absolutely free and it is available for all major platforms such as,

  1. Linux
  2. iOS
  3. Android
  4. macOS
  5. Mac OS X
  6. Windows

Not only that, LibreOffice is also open source.

Yes.

An open source software that is not only free but also available for all platforms.

shutterstock_1061810264

LibreOffice is actually based on another popular online productivity suite that goes by the name of OpenOffice.org.

A long time ago, Sun Microsystems developed and made available the original OpenOffice.org package for free.

As many of our readers would already know that the Apache organization has now taken over the original OpenOffice now and it operates it on its own.

The problem with that situation is that Apache, as an organization, is pretty much short of volunteers who want to work on the OpenOFfice.org suite of applications and programs.

And that is the precise reason why OpenOFfice.org has become weak against many types of online attacks.

We’re not going to go into the details on how vulnerable OpenOffice.org package is, but it should suffice for readers to know that it has great security issues and also does not have a maintenance team.

That’s right.

Currently, no one is supporting OpenOffice.org.

So what happened was that some people looked at the original OpenOffice.org code which was available to anyone and everyone, then took a copy of it.

Then they transformed that code into a full-fledged productivity suite.

They named the new office suite, LibreOffice.

And who exactly did all of this stuff for free?

The Document Foundation.

In other words, OpenOffice is now pretty much a no-go for anyone who wants to have a secure office suite.

LibreOffice is now the king of free and open source office suites.

It has knocked off OpenOffice from the throne.

Right now, many of our readers might be wondering:

“What on earth is the Document Foundation?”

To start off, it is not a foundation that distributes documents for free.

It is actually a non-profit organization that develops productivity suites.

Users who are very hostile to productivity suites from large corporations should feel right at home with LibreOffice.

However, LibreOffice is not like Microsoft 365.

It is not like Google Docs either.

If someone asked us the biggest difference between the LibreOffice productivity suite and Google Docs, then we would say that LibreOffice does not have a cloud component.

There is no cloud service, in other words.

And because such a feature is not available, it is up to the user to actually download the executables for the official LibreOffice productivity suite.

After that, the user has to install LibreOffice on his/her computer machine and then run the application.

Nuclino

Nuclino is another good Google Docs alternative.

At least that is what the company wants users to believe.

It bills itself as a genuine knowledge-based document creation system.

Users who sign up with Nuclino don’t really have to limit their office productivity suite use to just the creation of an original knowledge base for a given website.

Why?

Because this productivity suite, Nuclino, makes use of that term in more of a generalized sense rather than anything else.

The company basically thinks of its offerings as nothing but a central store of documents which are shared.

Nuclino is a productivity suite that focuses more on the concept of document creation and sharing rather than cloud storage.

This productivity suite service has the ability to provide users with a creation software for different types of presentation slides as well as documents.

Users can then access these documents simultaneously with other users who may be another member of the same time living in any other country on the map.

Apart from that, users also have the option of accessing their documents via online services directly through desktop applications for,

  • Linux
  • macOS
  • Mac OS X
  • Windows

As mentioned before, Nuclino is also available as a mobile app for platforms such as,

  • iOS
  • Android

The central Nuclino system tries to integrate features such as user authentication along with many others.

The user authentication feature is best suited for users who want to lock out various types of snoopers forever.

Users have the option of setting different levels and extent of access rights to their documents.

In this way, users can enable a few of their team members to have total access to their documents and have the rest only have rights to view their documents without any facility to edit those documents.

OnlyOffice

Google Docs and OnlyOffice have a multiple number of features and facilities in common with each other.

Users can easily use both to open up files that Microsoft office created.

There are lots of other common elements as well.

Both OnlyOffice and Google Docs allow users to work either offline or online.

OnlyOffice encrypts all its file transfers so users don’t have to worry about protection when they are creating and sharing their work.

Now, users should keep in mind that OnlyOffice does not provide them with any amount of storage where they can save their documents.

However, it does provide the facility to users to link the OnlyOffice service to their accounts on cloud storage services such as,

  • Yandex.Disk
  • NextCloud
  • Google Drive
  • OwnCloud
  • OneDrive
  • Dropbox

Once users have linked their accounts to one of the cloud storage services that we have mentioned above, then OnlyOFfice gains the ability to offer users storage options using which they can save and edit their documents in the cloud.

The other great thing about OnlyOffice is that it is completely and utterly free.

It doesn’t charge users any hidden fees either.

Users are free to access OnlyOffice creation applications and other software products with the help of nothing but their web browser.

As mentioned before as well, OnlyOFfice also encourages users to access and edit their documents and other files via the suites’ iOS and Android apps.

Zoho Docs

As far as useful products and features go, Zoho Docs can compete with anything else on the market.

shutterstock_440097550

It has a comprehensive online productivity suite.

And it has enough about it to rival even the likes of Google Docs.

That is why Zoho Docs has become the leading productivity suite after Google Docs.

The Zoho Docs productivity suite also enables users to share files and store documents.

In that respect, it is able to match Google Docs feature for feature.

Zoho Docs tries to provide the same facilities as Google Docs by offering users two-factor authentication.

Yes.

Zoho Docs is big enough and competent enough to offer users two-factor authentication integration for their documents and access to those documents which are present in the cloud.

As with most good productivity suites, Zoho Docs ensures that it protects all its file transfers via encryption.

The other mention-worthy thing about Zoho Docs is that it fully complies with the European Union-United States Privacy Shield Framework.

This Framework allows Zoho Docs to fully protect and preserve the privacy of all its customers/users.

Zoho Docs offers a system that individuals, as well as groups, can use without much training.

It implements features such as Document sharing with the help of secure links.

Users can copy these secure links and then email them to any and all of their collaborators.

Cool right?

Great.

Let’s move on to the next section.

Best Google Forms Alternatives

Google Forms are not as widely used as Google Docs or even Google Drive.

And there is a reason for it.

They are not for the general public.

Instead, they have found the most number of users in the Human Resource sector.

Most of all, because of their ease of access and distribution, they are likely to gain even more popularity.

Various companies around the world make use of Google Forms and all that its system offers for online aptitude tests, application forms and much more.

But Google Forms can help out customers in many different scenarios.

We’re talking about scenarios such as,

  • Data gathering
  • Work checklists
  • Questionnaires related to customer satisfaction

But we totally understand that some users may want to go away from Google in the more comprehensive manner as possible.

That means getting rid of Google products from every facet of one’s digital life.

We’re glad to let our readers know that there are many Google-free best Google Forms alternatives out there in the market.

Let’s take a look at which products made it to our random list.

  • Formsite
  • Typeform
  • Formstack
  • 123 Form Builder
  • JotForm

Here is a bit that we think will pleasantly surprise many of our readers:

The market for online forms services is very well supplied.

This means that users are much likely to find good, competent and also online services which have the ability to rival Google Forms.

With that said, again, we have restricted our list to five.

Because otherwise, we would have to list of online forms services which are not so great.

So let’s take a look at each of them turn by turn.

JotForm

JotForm is as free a service as they come.

It enables users to build up forms via its online service.

The official JotForm website isn’t just for the creation of forms though.

It also offers users to host their own forms.

This enables users to have them available to their target audience which would help them greatly in gathering responses to their questions.

Instead of storing online forms and their responses, JotForm helps users out by emailing all the responses to the creator of the online form.

Now, while that may sound cool, it does mean that the user will need to have a separate and dedicated application in order to first collate and then analyze all the data that has come back and which the user has collected through his/her online form/forms.

Our research shows that the JotForm official servers have great security.

However, JotForm only protects those emails via HTTPS while the message is still in transit.

Emails will not have complete protection unless and until they reach the mail server of the user’s email service assuming that the user has signed up for a standard email service.

In order to tighten up the security of your email and email messages please implement one of the best Gmail alternatives that we have mentioned in the first part of this post.

You can access the first part of this post by clicking here.

123 Form Builder

Another very interesting option.

We call it interesting (and not the greatest) because it doesn’t come for free.

However, the company does try to make up for the lack of a free version with lots of bonus features and facilities.

123 Form Builder has so many features that we think one should not have any problems in running an entire business online off it.

Let’s take a look at why are we saying that.

The official 123 Form Builder enables users to create those standard run-of-the-mill order forms.

It can also create contact forms.

Basically, it can help users create any and all types of forms that their heart may desire or need (there is a difference).

Then 123 Form Builder creates them in such a way that users can embed these forms into their email messages for distribution.

The other option 123 Form Builder makes available for the user is to use these forms on standard web pages.

Additionally, 123 Form Builder has a system in place which offers facilities to store responses.

There is also a utility for data management.

And that utility includes analytical tools for those who like to give a closer look to anything and everything.

Users who want to do more can integrate their forms created with 123 Form Builder with other beneficial applications such as MailChimp and Salesforce.

There is also an option for the users to allow the system to actually link online payment collection services.

These payment collection service options include Stripe and PayPal.

Formstack

Formstack can integrate with all the big services such as PayPal, MailChimp, and Salesforce in order to enable users to make forms which act as the driving interface of their businesses.

Perhaps this is as good a time as any to mention the fact that Formstack is not free.

The user has to pay in order to use the service.

However, Formstack does provide potential customers with a free 14-day official trial period.

Which is great.

Formstack provides the facility for users to embed the forms they create with Formstack in their email messages, websites and/or on their social media accounts/pages.

The other wonderful thing about using Formstack to create online forms is security.

In other words, Formstack provides encryption for the user’s data in storage, in transit and on the official site.

Users can avail the option of having Formstack host their forms.

But, again, it is an opt-in feature.

In order to ensure that Formstack is able to host forms successfully, it has to shift its primary focus from forms creation to the security measures it has taken to protect its system.

However, if the user goes ahead with the route of hosting his/her own forms on his/her own website or even if the user embeds them in his/her email messages, then the user has to take the security aspect of his/her work in his/her own hands.

Formstack can’t help such users as far as security is concerned.

Typeform

This online form creation tool is more of an online hosted form solution than anything else.

It has everything to help users build anything and everything from an online store to as simple as a questionnaire.

As far as the actual system goes, it is very visual.

Moreover, it also offers users a lot of in-demand graphical capabilities in order to make the user’s form not only attractive but also fun to interact with.

It provides users with features such as animation integration as well as videos.

Yes.

You read that right.

Videos in online forms.

This means that the user can use the Typeform platform to not only produce advanced forms but also to produce online training courses.

Our research shows that users can also use Typeform to create installation and/or troubleshooting guides.

TypeForm comes with a control console as well.

It includes some of the most fundamental tools that any user would need for analysis and other such activities.

Users are free to utilize all these features in order to examine each and every response that they receive via their forms.

TypeForm also offers users to store that data for them.

As far as the pricing model goes, Typeform has two of them.

The first version is the free version.

And the second version is the paid version.

TypeForm is not an ordinary form creation tool.

Some of the biggest companies that use Typeform to build forms include,

  • Nike
  • Uber
  • Airbnb

In other words, if a user has subscribed to Typeform he/she is in a very good and successful company.

With that said, it has come to our attention that Typeform experienced a data breach attack in June and May of 2018.

This may make some users very cautious about using TypeForm as their primary service for online forms.

Now, our suggestion is the same.

Users should exercise caution when using Typeform online form service.

We’re pretty sure that the company will get its servers and the security problems related to them in order in the very near future.

Formsite

As far as the online form creation market goes, Formsite can count itself among the market leaders.

And perhaps it should be.

The company has provided online form services for many years now.

Formsite came onto the scene of offering online form services even before Google.

More precisely, Formsite came into existence way back in 1999.

Now, about two decades later, it boasts more than a total of 500 million forms that online consumers have created using the tools that it has provided.

The Formsite company has the ability to collect responses and host forms.

Users can utilize the Formsite service to generate forms for their email messages as well.

So how much does this online service cost?

Well, as far as the pricing model goes, Formsite offers its services to interested users with the help of a multiple number of subscription packages.

Some call them plans.

We encourage readers to go to their official website and find out the pricing of their new packages as they get changed fairly quickly in the case of Formsite.

Now, perhaps we should also inform readers that Formsite also offers a free ad-supported version of its service.

The official Formsite user console comes with a variety of useful features such as providing access to the user’s stored responses.

Then, Formsite provides users with enough built-in tools to analyze all the data.

It can even export that data.

Formsite protects data storage via encryption.

It offers users the ability to limit access to his/her forms to only those users who have proper authentication credentials.

Our research shows that Formsite has not undergone any recent security breaches.

And that is saying a lot for a company that has been in the business for such a long time.

Conclusion

Believe it or not, but there are still many ways for users to get rid of Google from all facets of their digital life.

We’re talking more about those ways in the third part of this series of posts.

Now, we have talked a lot about how one can stay clear of Google’s data gathering programs and everything else.

What we have not talked about much is that users should also give some thought to using a VPN service in order to protect their privacy and guard their anonymity.

To read more about what a VPN does, click here.

If you already know what a VPN is and that you would be a fool to not use a VPN service in a world where governments are running some pretty big surveillance programs, then perhaps the next question on your mind might be:

“Which VPN service should I go for.”

Let us answer that question for you.

It is IPVanish.

IPVanish is the best VPN service if you want to get rid of Google and your internet service provider off your back and to collect your data to use it against or “for” you.

We have ranked IPVanish at the top of the pile for many years now.

And there are good reasons for us doing so.

IPVanish is,

  • Economical
  • Reasonably fast
  • Well-reputed
  • A truly zero-log VPN service
  • Experienced
  • Secure

Most of all, it comes with a money back guarantee so that users don’t have to risk any money while trying to protect their privacy and anonymity.

The only thing for the user (you) to understand is that, you shouldn’t go off and buy an IPVanish package from the first search result that Google gives you.

You should only buy IPvanish VPN service from the official website.

Click here to buy IPVanish from the official website right now.

Stay tuned for (probably) the final part of this series of posts which teaches you how to eliminate Google from your life.
