New twitter hack from Cyber Caliphate (ISIS-affiliate group) targeting the Obama family via Newsweek twitter account.
Earlier today, the twitter account of Newsweek was hacked by the ISIS friendly group called “Cyber Caliphate”. Even though the whole hacking did not last more than a quarter of an hour, it was the tweet that had produced a lot of noise. In fact, Michele Obama, the girls and of course Barack were threatened by the Cyber Caliphate and made it clear that they are not willing to give up. If you recall, the Cyber Caliphate was behind the cyber attack that took place some days ago (back in January) and targeted the US Central Command twitter account. Then, the hackers had shouted at the soldiers of the US and urged them to watch their back.
As you can see, the threats include violence and target directly to the most sensitive parts of the American society; first, the army and now the President of the United States of America. Now, the twitter account of Newsweek has been back up again and there is no issue. However, the incident highlights the breaches that can lead to similar cases in the near future – as this was not a one-time phenomenon, rather than an ongoing pattern. According to the statement that Newsweek published after the twitter hack via Kira Bindrim, managing director: “We can confirm that Newsweek’s Twitter account was hacked this morning, and have since regained control of the account…We apologize to our readers for anything offensive that might have been sent from our account during that period, and are working to strengthen our newsroom security measures going forward”.
Within one of their tweets, the Cyber Caliphate claimed that they are working their way towards reaching the national security system and their proof is none other than the revelations of confidential data from the US National Cybersecurity Center. On the other hand now, Army Colonel Steven C. Warren has stated after the attacks targeting the US Central Command that hacking twitter accounts can be irritating, but it is not as dangerous as penetrating the governmental agencies and services: “The Defense Department views this as little more than a prank, or as vandalism. It’s inconvenient; it’s an annoyance but in no way is any sensitive or classified information compromised.”
On Tuesday there was another incident of hacking by the very same group to ibtimes.com. If you look closely, you will see that both Newsweek and International Business Times share the same parent company, which is in fact IBT Media. This is definitely something that has to do with the success of the ISIS-affiliate group to hack both these twitter accounts. All at once, Barack Obama is about to ask Congress to agree with the ISIS campaign, as you can see at the video from the link offered above from Newsweek. This is why the Obama family was brought to the spotlight and became the target of ISIS, as it seems.
