Want to learn how to unblock WhatsApp in China? Great. Just read on with focus.

WhatsApp has become the most popular messaging app in the world.

No one can deny that fact.

Recent surveys have shown that Whatsapp is, in fact, the most downloaded messaging application on the Android platform.

To put it more simply, WhatsApp has become a must-have application for all smartphone users.

And for good reason.

The number of fantastic features it offers along with having a user-friendly interface, makes WhatsApp a perfect messaging application.

But there is another reason why WhatsApp has taken over all other messaging services:

It doesn’t show you ads.

It is free.

But still, it does not show users ads.

And perhaps that is WhatsApp’s biggest draw.

Ads are annoying.

They slow down your app experience.

And can also cause crashes.

Most smartphones aren’t equipped appropriately to handle ads that can come in all shapes and sizes.

People who are using WhatsApp have done so for the same reason as anyone would have:

They don’t want ads and hence have made the wise decision of using a messaging service that does not show them ads.

The other factor why so many people have adopted WhatsApp as their primary mode of communication via their smartphone is because Standard SMS is boring and inefficient.

WhatsApp has replaced the standard SMS.

People who previously loved to send those SMS messages are now using WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is cheaper and faster than standard SMS.

And perhaps that makes sense as well.

Why would you want to pay for an SMS service if you can message your contact for free using WhatsApp?

Of course, you will need an internet connection to send a WhatsApp message but it is still considerably cheaper than an SMS.

As mentioned before, WhatsApp has replaced the standard SMS and all other messaging apps for most years.

And the primary reason for that is the company’s stable servers.

They never go out of order.

WhatsApp always works.

Other text messaging services break down too often to even compete with WhatsApp.

Moreover, WhatsApp has so many amazing app features that we can’t think of another messaging app that can compete with it.

With WhatsApp, you can send messages, update your status, change your profile picture, share videos, photos, documents, locations, contacts and much more.

There is no other messaging service out there in the market that offers so many features for free.

Moreover, WhatsApp also has the best privacy policy.

Its privacy settings are easily accessible and users have full control over what information they want their contacts to see.

WhatsApp is the most popular “secure” messaging application in the world. Not in China though. Not anymore.

Did we mention that WhatsApp is very easy to use?

Did we?

Great.

Let’s move on then.

WhatsApp also allows users to control what people see about them.

For example, if you are uncomfortable with the fact that a person can see when you have read his/her message or your last online time then you can change that.

You can set it as such no one can see if you have read their messages.
Users can also tell WhatsApp to not show people your last online time.

We will tell you all you need to know.

  1. The Chinese network censoring is driving me crazy. But there are few stereotype-mistakes in this article and I think that’s probably why those comments are aggressive.
Like Weibo is not banned in China and actually Chinese people use Wechat instead of whatsapp. To someone who ever LIVED in China(including foreigners), Wechat is definitely more functional than whatsapp, you can even make payments with the app online/offline – everywhere.

But the point is – The article is filled with subjective opinions and unconfirmed guess! I’m here almost desperate to know how to unblock whatsapp, not to know your personal thoughts about the apps! What really bothers is that through the writing I can tell, not only you don’t know about living in China, never tried asking someone who might know about it, and never even google a bit before you start typing. It is just misleading and not solving problems at all. I truly understand why those commenters didn’t want to spend their time explaining. BTW, get a VPN is not working for iPhone users still.

  2. For my understanding, if anyone’s cell uses foreign SIM card, for instance Rogers, Bell, etc, you don’t need VPN in China, you can use Whatsapp, you can Google, Facebook, etc. Recently my friend phused Unicom HK SIM card, and then went to China. In China my friend used Whatsapp without VPN contact me, and I asked my friend if can go Google, Facebook, etc without VPN, the answer was Yes!

    • That’s great news.
Of course, one would then have to deal with the charges that come with using foreign SIM cards.
That could lead to all sorts of complications, such as purchasing a new number or paying more for the same number on a different network.
For people who can afford it easily, this is definitely a solution.

  3. China government want to control the economy and news from outside. Do you know expect What’s app, there is WeChat ? Before Facebook bought What’s app, WeChat already existing, but it was not advanced. But now WeChat is advanced enough. They want more outside user to grow internal economy and control information flow. Can you do more research first? Zohair

    • Thank you for the feedback.
Of course WeChat is a legitimate alternative to WhatsApp.
In the end it all depends on your contacts.
If most of them are using WhatsApp then WeChat is useless to you and vice versa.

      Reply
    • There’s a reason why China allows WeChat. The government has interception protocols to view messages on it. Of course the same could be said about NSA able to view Whatsapp messages, but after Snowden I expect better scrutiny of it compared to WeChat.

Of course, it is true that nothing truly is “private” once you log to a service in order to communicate with someone.
For the privacy conscious people, the best options is either Signal or Telegram.
