Crowdfunding campaigns are considered to be a risky deal. Crowdfunding brings great number of benefits for startups, but it can also be easily manipulated by entrepreneurs. In some of most recent cases a guy managed to gather $65k in funding to make a potato salad. Some of the applicants also use the funds they gather for some items that are not related with their business. You can check some of the biggest crowdfunding scams here.
This doesn’t mean that every crowdfunding campaign is fraudulent. There are still people out there that care and want to start a profitable and valuable business. The latest example of that is Manchester based software company WEDG. They have started a campaign on Indiegogo in order to raise around $220.000 so they can start the production of their WEDG cloud storage device.
WEDG can be used to store user mails and any type of files. It is a self hosted device with high attention to security and privacy details and rules. The greatest thing about this soft-gadget is that it is located off-cloud. Yeap, know it sounds strange buying a cloud device that’s not even using a cloud. Well WEDG won in life if you ask me. All of the information will be stored on the self-hosted device in your office or your apartment, where ti will be 100% safe from online hackers. Here are some of the value added solutions that WEDG offers:
Encryption & Security Measures: When you first login to your WEDG device a 512bit encryption will be triggered on the disk of the device. There’s also an integrated key management system that will ease up the data security and privacy process for trusted users.
Sync – Store – Share: There are lots of cloud platforms that offer these option, but almost none of them possesses great security measures. Here you will be able to share files via a password protected link.
Open to Apps: Remember the time when there were not so many Android apps? Well if WEDG is open to apps this means that its functionality can increase in no time. Imagine an app that will allow you to stream data directly from your WIDGE. Sounds cool right?
Data Analytics for Businesses: Just install a platform like CRM (Customer Relationship Management) on your WIDGE. This will save you up money on monthly subscriptions.
Email Data: Connect your mailbox and start using features like address book and calendar. You can use Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird and Apple Mail.
Streaming: Use WIDGE to stream your media to any device you want. This means that you can stream movies to your TV with no problem.
Hosting: WIDGE is open to FTP and MySQL databases while supporting HTML and CMS websites. You can host your WordPress, Joomla or Drupal sites here.
eWallet: Connect all of your cryptocurrency wallets in one place with the utmost security.
The Indiegogo campaign for WIDGE will close on November 21st and here’s what Shehbaz Afzal has to say about company’s future plans:
“We envisage apps for photo galleries, centralised password stores, Bitcoin wallets. If we’re able to meet our [Indiegogo] stretch goal of £135,000 we will start development of a web based office suite much like Google Docs and Office 365 for centralised real-time collaboration from the Wedg.”
How do you think that a device of this type will help you out with your everyday online activities. Will you be streaming videos with your friends all day long or you’re more concerned about the privacy of your information? Feel free to share your opinions in the comment section.
