These are also a type of record but they only store the metadata about a user’s connection. They don’t store any information about internet usage.

So what data gets recorded in connection logs?

Some record more than others. Most of the time though, VPN providers will record information such as the time a user connected to their network and for how long the session lasted. They might also record how often a user connects to their servers. As you can probably imagine, most users are totally fine with VPN providers keeping this information in their logs.

That being said, there’s no doubt that these connection logs can be used to identify users. Information contained within the metadata can also be used to discover usage patterns, which can identify a user or be used to deliver advertisements if the connection logs are sold.

This means that other people, who are complete strangers to you, can use your internet connection to browse the internet. If they go to an illegal website or do something illegal, it would appear to the website that you did it. There is no confirmed way of proving that you weren’t the person that accessed that illegal website if someone else does so on your internet connection via Hola VPN.
