What Is My IP Address Location? – IP Lookup Tool

What Is an IP?

The term IP stands for Internet Protocol. An IP address is a numerical code that’s assigned to any device that’s connected to a network of computers. The device has to use an Internet Protocol to communicate with other devices on the network, and it uses an IP address to perform that action.

IP addresses are also used to identify any given device that has connected to a given computer network. Broadly speaking, the internet is just a giant network of computers.

So when you connect to the internet, you basically get assigned an IP address automatically.

As we mentioned above, a computer’s IP address can be compared to a house’s postal address. But the obvious difference between the two is that the IP address is almost always a number (a long one).

Pro Tip:

The IP address that your router assigns you is your local IP address (or private IP address) and the one that your ISP assigns you is your public IP address.

When you use a Virtual Private Network service, though, your IP address changes to a different server in a different country or city than your original location. This way, not even your ISP can see your location or activities.

Since Security Gladiators is a small specialized website, we don’t generate much revenue so our budget for these tools and information is limited, this is why the accuracy of our tool might be slightly off on the information apart from the IP address which will be correct and exact. But for other companies with huge budgets (think ISP, marketing companies, governments, Facebook etc.), their tracking is so accurate that they know EXACTLY where you are.

What Can My IP Address Show About Me?

Your internet service provider assigns you a unique IP address every time you connect to the internet. The most straightforward way to think about an IP address is that it’s essentially your online mailing address.

Whenever internet traffic moves to or from your device (whether it’s a laptop, desktop or smartphone), your IP address is used.

Interestingly, sometimes it doesn’t fully reveal your precise location. So if someone got a hold of your computer’s IP address, the most information they could learn about you would be the name of the internet service provider you use for your internet connection.

But if you’re concerned about whether or not someone can see your name and the location of your office or home, or wherever you are right now, then the answer is no for the most part.

However, if someone really wants to find you, they may be able to pinpoint your general location in a city on a map. The exact coordinates would most likely be off by miles, though.

The most they can do is to trace you through your internet service provider, and there, you’ll be able to lose them with ease.

Now, the above scenario only holds for strangers or potentially malicious actors online. Your internet service provider knows exactly where you are, but ISPs go great lengths to protect their customers’ IP addresses and privacy. That doesn’t mean they do not keep any logs on you, because they likely do.

We should make an exception for law enforcement agencies as well.

Warning:

Any internet user who willingly participates in anything illegal can get in trouble, as police are able to obtain a warrant requiring your ISP to hand over any information on the location and activities linked to your IP address.

The extent to which law enforcement can access your information will depend on the laws in your country or state.

How to Change Your IP Address to Another Country

The internet is not as free and open as you might think. Sometimes when you try to access a streaming site or watch a video online, you might come across an error message informing you that you can’t access the said content because of your location.

This is where you need to learn how to change your IP address to another country.

And the best way to do that is with the help of a VPN service. A Virtual Private Network service can change your IP address as many times as you want.

In addition to that, you can also select your desired location. Modern VPN apps have made it very easy for users to change their IP addresses with just a few clicks on the screen.

VPN services change IP addresses almost instantaneously—to any website or streaming service on the internet, it would seem like you’re located in a country that’s different from your real location. With a good VPN, you can change your IP location to any country, region, state or city in the world.

VPNs also add an extra layer of security and privacy to your internet connection. This way, the websites/services you visit won’t be able to see where you are.

Now, a lot of Virtual Private Network services claim to be the fastest or the most secure or the most reliable. Some are better than others, and you might have to do some research to find the best option. To make it easy for you, we’ve put together a guide to the top 10 VPN services on the market.

Our guide only lists VPN services that offer military-grade encryption and work with almost all streaming services. On top of that, the VPNs we’ve included in our list offer money-back guarantees so you can try out the service without wasting your money.
